Abstract
Drinking water is sometimes not available in rural areas of Senegal. It is in this context that this study was carried out. The aim was to study the physico-chemical quality of the different types of water consumed in the village of Fintel Sombe. The methodology consisted of first carrying out a survey and then collecting water. The survey showed that 55.56% of those questioned were women, and the majority (88.89%) drank well water. More than half (60%) considered the quality of tap water to be poor, based on organoleptic characteristics. The pH values are close to neutral (7.4 for tap water, between 6.4 and 6.8 for well water). The conductivity showed that the tap water was more mineralized than the well water. The chloride concentrations found in the tap water were lower than those found in the well water. Fluoride concentrations varied from 0.004mg/l (well) to 3.410mg/l (tap). Both well water and tap water contained relatively low concentrations of cations.
