Abstract

A cross-sectional study took place during the period from January 14 to May 22, 2022 in the fourteen regions of Senegal. The objective of this study was to evaluate continuing education needs among community pharmacists; to develop a compulsory continuing professional training model, adapted to the requirements of Senegalese community pharmacy. Using the Google Forms electronic tool, 110 forms were collected completed by community pharmacists. The analysis of the results was carried out using the Excel 2016 spreadsheet. Regarding the results, the majority of individuals in the sample (64.54%) consider that the initial training of pharmacists in Senegal is good, very good or excellent. However, it should be noted that 23.64% of participants find that it needs to be rehabilitated. The results also show that community pharmacists face several difficulties in carrying out their duties. Among them, the most worrying are found at three levels: obtaining an effective means to constantly be up to date (22.72%), adapting to changes (20.91%) and having the capacities required for better management pharmacy (20.91%). Concerning the project to establish a system of compulsory continuing pharmaceutical training in Senegal, 95.45% of pharmacists are aware of its necessity. However, 9.09% of participants reject the idea of making it an obligation. Finally, the continuing professional training model proposed based on the analysis of the results of the survey is based on a high committee for continuing professional training as the management body of the system.
